Former Chelsea midfielder Pat Nevin believes his old club have no need to splash the cash on a new striker in the January transfer window.

The Blues continue to be linked with a new centre-forward in their bid to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, which is the team’s minimum target this season. The main target remains Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, while Napoli have confirmed that they are ready to sell in the winter market.

However, Nevin believes Chelsea do not need to sign new players, especially in the forward position, with huge sums of money again.

“You don’t need a centre-forward who scores 25 or 30 goals a season. What you need is a centre-forward who scores a fair amount of goals but moves well, gets into spaces, creates space for team-mates. But if he scores 20 goals a season, that’s great,” Nevin said.

“But I’m not sure. I think people are attract to Cole Palmer, who scored so many goals last season. He scored as many goals as a main striker, so you just need someone to help out in the forward position.”

“They might want to get Osimhen, but personally I think the club should have bought him four years ago, when the team needed him.”

“I think Jackson is improving. If you look at his numbers, which I think Chelsea have spent a lot of time on, the numbers have been UFABET quite good this season and if that continues, he will have another 20 league and cup goals by the end of the season.”
